La Tavola keeps your recipes, your guests and your dinner parties on your iPhone. There is no analytics, no advertising, and no tracking. The only things that leave your phone are what's needed to sign you in, keep your subscription working, and answer the AI requests you specifically ask for.
What stays on your iPhone
Your recipes, recipe photographs, dinner parties, menus, shopping lists, notes, wine ratings, and everything you record about a guest — their name, contact details, dietary preferences and wine preferences — are stored in a database on your device. We cannot see any of it.
This data is included in your iPhone's own backups if you have those switched on, under Apple's encryption and Apple's terms. Deleting the app deletes it from the device.
Information about your guests
What you record about a guest is personal information about someone who isn't using the app. You decide what to enter and you're responsible for having a reasonable basis to keep it. Removing a guest from a dinner party removes that connection; deleting the app removes everything held on the device.
When you sign in
La Tavola uses Sign in with Apple. Apple sends us a signed identity token that identifies your account to our server, and — only on the very first sign-in with a given Apple ID — your name and email address. We store those so the account exists and so we can reach you about it.
If you choose Hide My Email, we only ever receive Apple's private relay address. We never receive your Apple password.
What is sent when you use an AI feature
AI features send a request to our server, which forwards it to Anthropic's Claude API and returns the answer. Nothing is sent unless you trigger one of these actions, and this is the whole list of what goes:
- Import a recipe from a photograph — the photographs you selected.
- Import from a link or pasted text — that link or text.
- Wine pairing — the names of the appetiser and main dishes, the meal type, the season, and whether you've asked to favour red or white.
- Shopping list questions — the items on that list, the dinner party's name and date, the meal type, the number of confirmed guests, and your question.
- Scaling a recipe — the ingredient list.
What is never sent: guest names, guest contact details, dietary preferences, wine preferences, RSVP status, your notes, your ratings, or your party history. These stay on the device and our server never receives them. The shopping assistant is explicitly built without access to guest information.
Anthropic processes the request in order to produce the result. Our server records that a request happened — which account, which feature, and when — because that is how subscription allowances are counted.
Subscriptions and payment
Payment is handled entirely by Apple. We never see your card, your billing address, or your Apple Account credentials. We use RevenueCat to keep track of whether a subscription is active; it receives an identifier for your account and the purchase record Apple issues, and nothing about your recipes or guests.
Permissions the app asks for
- Contacts — only when you tap to add a guest from your address book. The app receives the single contact you pick, not your address book.
- Camera and Photos — to photograph a recipe page or choose an existing picture.
- Calendar — to put your dinner parties in your calendar. The app writes and updates only the events it created and never reads the rest of your calendar.
Each of these is optional. Declining one disables that feature and nothing else.
What we don't do
No analytics or usage-tracking software. No crash-reporting service. No advertising and no ad identifiers. No tracking you across other apps or websites. No selling, renting or sharing your information with data brokers. La Tavola contains no third-party software development kits that collect information about you.
Where your information is handled
Our server runs in the United States, and Anthropic and RevenueCat process requests there too. If you use the app from outside the United States, this means your information is handled there.
Deleting your account
In the app, go to Settings → Delete Account. This deletes your account and its records from our server and revokes the app's Apple sign-in token. Deleting the app from your iPhone removes everything held on the device.
If you have an active subscription, cancel it separately in Settings → your name → Subscriptions on your iPhone. Deleting your account does not cancel Apple billing.
Children
La Tavola is not directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect information from them. If you believe a child has provided us with information, write to us and we'll remove it.
This website
sailormansoftware.com is hosted on GitHub Pages, which records standard server request logs. We don't run analytics and we don't set cookies. The typefaces are served from this site rather than from a font service, so viewing these pages sends no request to Google or any other third party.
Changes
This policy may be updated. The date at the top will change when it is, and any material change to what we collect will be described here rather than made quietly.
